MANILA, Philippines – Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario believes that a China Central Television’s (CCTV) nationwide broadcast on Monday declaring the Philippines a part of China was unintentional.
In a text message, Del Rosario on Thursday noted “Beijing, I am sure, does not want to be depicted as being in an expansionist move.”
“Perhaps, this should be declared as an inadvertent statement by [the Chinese government-run] media network,” Del Rosario told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
This made me sad and frustrated at the same time. As much as we want to have rules-based approach, China will try their utmost best to prevent this by securing the island first. My impression is they'll invade and then talk later. Once that happens, what can we do?? They have the island. No matter what we say or do, it'll be difficult to reverse it. The Philippines does not have the military might like China and that is why it thinks it can trample a small nation like ourselves. It frustrates me that they are very much two-faced! They say one thing and do another. They say provoking statements in their state television and accuse us of instigating it. This issue has seriously bothered me and makes me not want to stay in HK anymore. Seriously.
